What do you turn to when you need a good kick in the arse? Death Metal, the more brutality involved the better. Todays “Motivational” music hails from Istanbul, Turkey and comes in the form of four piece ENGULFED, and their debut full length album “Engulfed In Obscurity”. Formed back in 2010 they released their EP “Through The Eternal Damnation” in 2012 to critical acclaim. Now they are back to rattle ear drums once again. GJENDǾD – Nedstingning – Review

Author: Craig Matthews

Music nowadays has gotten so complex that sometimes it barely resembles what it was when the genre began; Black Metal is no exception to this rule. Today’s band is here to cut through the bullshit and remind us how it all began. In true Norwegian Black Metal style I can’t really tell you much about the duo GJENDǾD, they burst onto the scene in 2016 with a self – titled demo which critics loved. This release “Nedstingning” is their debut full length album. Continue reading GJENDǾD – Nedstingning – Review

Venice, Italy is arguably one of the most serene and picturesque places in Europe and somewhere you’re more likely to find gentle Opera rather than Death Metal, right? Wrong! Enter FROM THE SHORES and their debut full length album “Of Apathy”, they formed back in 2008 and have been hiding away, patiently honing their sound with only an EP and a single forming their back catalogue. Today we are taking a trip across the water to Québec, Canada. Where we find Symphonic Death Metal foursome AETERNAM and their third full length album “Ruins Of Empires”. Caskets Open – Follow Nothing – Review

Author: Craig Matthews

It’s confession time here at Metalphobia, mine is that I’ve never been a huge fan of Doom Metal. I don’t know why, it’s just never really stuck with me but I’m always willing to try new things. With this attitude I pressed play on CASKETS OPEN and their latest release “Follow Nothing”. CASKETS OPEN hail from Keuruu, Finland and have been on the go since 2007. “Follow Nothing” is the three pieces third full length album, as well as a few demos. These guys aren’t new kids on the block, so I’m expecting very good things. Continue reading Caskets Open – Follow Nothing – Review

Black Faith – Nightscapes – Review

Author: Craig Matthews

What do you get if you cross Old School Black Metal with anarchic Thrash Metal? Italian three piece BLACK FAITH, and their second full length release “Nightscapes”. With so much emphasis placed on progression and atmospherics in Black Metal these days, I’m looking forward to hearing something with fury AND malice.
